EXERCISE: The Rest is Up to You (A Jabby Guide to Finding Your Ideal Rest Periods)
When it comes to rest periods, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. It's like finding the perfect pair of jeans: you have to try on a few different pairs before your body exhaled: “Yeeeesssss…… this feels goooood….”.
If you're training for strength (1–2mins), you'll need more rest between sets than if you're training for endurance (30 seconds to 1 minute). And if you're a newbie, you'll need more rest than a seasoned lifter who's been pounding iron and grunting like an orge for years.
But don't worry, my groovy friend, I'm here to help you navigate the murky waters of rest periods with flair, sophistication, and a touch of wit. Just a little…
Here are a few tips:
- Listen to your body. This is the most important rule of thumb, because your body do 'speak'. Pay attention to how you're feeling and adjust your rest periods accordingly. If your hip is screaming “This is too much! My pee is squirting out!”, take a break. If you're feeling good and ready to go, keep pounding on.
- Experiment. The best way to find your ideal rest periods is to experiment. Try out different rest periods and see how they affect your performance and recovery. If your biceps are giving subtle Jabs like “bro, sprinkle some of that pepper of inaction over me, while I marinate in boredom…” you're resting too long.
- Keep a journal. Keeping a journal of your workouts is a great way to track your progress and identify what works best for you. Record your rest periods, how you feel during and after your workouts, and any other relevant information. If your recorded rest periods fluctuate like a violent stock market exchange, you're probably not resting right…
Now, for the fun part: some witty, humorous, and thought-provoking questions to ponder:
- What if rest was actually the key to getting in shape? Hmm… Imagine a world where you could spend all your time napping on the couch and still have a killer body. Wouldn't that be nice…
- Is there's a way to hack your rest periods and get the same results with less time off? Maybe we could develop a special kind of nap that allows us to fully recover in just a few minutes. Ooo.. I'd like that… Give me some..
- What does your ideal rest period look like? A hammock under a palm tree? A nap on your couch while watching your favorite Netflix show? A meditation session in the park? Or a quick daydream between sets?… Time to wake up, bro!
Whatever it is, find your ideal rest periods and enjoy the journey!
After all, life is too short to spend it all working out. We need to take some time to relax, recharge, and have some fun too.
More tips are in the above links, my friends.
