Exercise: Running for Muscle Gain Is Like Trying to Get a Tan by Sitting in the Shade
Hi Cheruiyot,
Can running once a week enhance your muscle gain and endurance?
I get it. You're feeling a little stale at the gym. You're looking for a new challenge. You're thinking about running.
Go for it! Running is a great way to improve your overall fitness, including your endurance. But don't expect to get jacked from running alone.
When you lift weights, you're creating microscopic tears in your muscle fibers. Your body then repairs these tears, making your muscles stronger and bigger.
Running doesn't create the same kind of muscle damage. So, if you're serious about building muscle, you need to FOCUS on strength training.
But don't despair! Running can still be a valuable part of your fitness routine. It's a great way to improve your CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH, LOSE WEIGHT, AND BURN CALORIES.
If you're looking to build muscle, you need to challenge your muscles with a weight that is heavy enough to make you fail within 8-12 repetitions. You should also aim to lift weights at least 3 times per week.
If you're looking to improve your endurance, running is a great option. But if you're looking to build muscle, you're better off focusing on strength training.
